Personal Artwork
In my personal artwork, I portray landscapes and architecture. While my work is realistic in style, it is distinguishably a painting. Upon closer inspection, each small brushstroke presents itself; as a cohesive group, they bring the scene together. This, partnered with the use of bright colors, accentuates the idealized beauty of a location.
Painting is a process of translation. Each artwork requires a unique thought process in order to accurately illustrate the location. I must always think of how to accomplish the effect of light and shadow, create the illusion of texture, and mix color to closely match the place I am depicting. The deliberate placement of these details is what brings the painting to life and these small brushstrokes often make the biggest impact.
Through my work, I set out to capture the color, texture, and feel of a location in order to transport the viewer to that place, even if only for a short time.
Painting
Painting is my primary medium in my own art and was one of my chosen focus areas for my undergraduate studies. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I experimented with different styles and painting techniques.
Ceramic Work
I love ceramics! Currently in my high school internship placement, my classes are working on ceramics projects. Ceramics is a great medium because no matter what students are good at, they can do well because a little bit of everything can be incorporated (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.).
Illustration
Illustration was my secondary focus area for my BFA. I primarily worked in watercolor.
